Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will reportedly be surged to Chicago to crack down on illegal immigration in the city. This comes as Trump has weighed sending in the National Guard to the Windy City to assist law enforcement in cracking down on crime.

Per Fox News, some federal staff are at the Great Lakes Naval Base just north of Chicago already, and 300 agents are expected to arrive in Chicago. The mayor of Broadview, a Chicago suburb, has said that a building in the town would be used as a primary processing facility. The operation could last over 45 days, Fox News said. Law enforcement has reportedly been warned of protests, some of which could turn violent.

Per WLS, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has said that expanded ICE operations are set to start on Saturday, when Mexican Independence Day celebrations are taking place. Some areas, such as Waukegan and North Chicago, have canceled celebrations.

Two defense officials familiar with the matter told the Washington Post that the Pentagon has approved the use of Naval Station Great Lakes as a hub for the upcoming operations. DHS told the outlet in a statement, "DHS is targeting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens — including murderers, rapists, gang members, pedophiles, and terrorists — across the country. DHS will go to wherever these criminal illegal aliens are — including Chicago, Boston, and other cities."
