JD Vance reportedly invited Penny to the game.
"VP-Elect JD Vance has invited Daniel Penny to be his personal guest at the Army-Navy game this weekend, per source familiar. They will be joining President Trump in his suite at the game," said NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman on X.
The game is scheduled to take place Saturday at 3 pm Eastern time.
Vance said that Penny accepted the invitation on Friday, and posted, "Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone. I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage."
After the verdict, Vance posted his support for Penny. "I have not said much about this case out of fear of (negatively) influencing the jury. But thank God justice was done in this case. It was a scandal Penny was ever prosecuted in the first place."
This comes after Penny was acquitted of criminal charges and his defense team is also considering the filing of a malicious prosecution lawsuit against Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for bringing the case.
Penny's defense lawyer, Steven Raiser, told Fox and Friends, "They knew they weren't going to be able to get him, so they had to get rid of that top count in order to get to that second count, just in hopes that maybe they could pull out a win here, and they were unsuccessful, thank God."
Witnesses in the case told the jury that Neely had been making death threats against people on the subway train. When Penny was interviewed after the verdict on Fox, one of the first public comments he said was that he would not have been able to carry the “guilt [he] would have felt if someone did get hurt, if [Neely] did do what he was threatening to do.”
