"I kind of feel like something very private to me was taken from me without my consent."
The incident left the woman, who has frequented the spa for the past eight years feeling violated, she said in a now-viral video posted to social media on Monday.
The woman explained that Island Spa and Sauna has both women's and men's-only sections, which consist of saunas, hot tubs, massage tables, and other items for use. All patrons who use the facility are naked. She recently went to the spa to decompress and was "shocked" when she exited the hot tub to see a person with "a penis, chest hair, and a low haircut," explaining that she "freaked out and ran" to report the matter to staff.
The employees, who are all women, told the patron with a disgruntled look on their faces that the person identified as a transgender woman and the spa had the legal obligation to allow the man in the women's-only area, the woman said.
"I kind of feel like something very private to me was taken from me without my consent," the patron said. "And when I say something very private, I mean my body." She explained that she had used the spa for the past eight years and considered it her "place of refuge." However, she said that safety net has since been taken from her due to biological men invading female-only spaces.
"You could tell the spa workers were torn because they also looked uncomfortable with a man walking around with his penis swinging," the woman explained in the video, holding back tears.
The incident is identical to those that have occurred at women's-only spas in Los Angeles, California and Lynnwood, Washington.
