President Donald Trump announced that shipping company CMA CGM will be investing $20 billion into shipping logistics as well as terminals in the US for supply chain infrastructure. Trump said, the company will be "investing $20 billion into the United States because of the election."

"This massive investment will go toward building out shipping, logistics infrastructure terminals, which will create an estimated 10,000 new jobs in America. It's so important because it's about shipping," the president continued." You know, we lost our way for many years. We haven't done anything. We used to build a ship a day, and now we essentially don't build ships. We're going to start that, and we're going to be announcing next week, or the week after, a massive new program for building very, larger, larger ships in the world."

Trump made the announcement after visiting with CMA CGM chairman Rodophe Sade at the White House. This week, Trump said that he would be creating new Office of Shipbuilding at the White House.

This comes after Trump has called for the US to expand its domestic ship building industry. The Wall Steet Journal reported that the president plans on signing an executive order which includes 18 different points to invest in ship building in the United States as well as charge fees for Chinese-built ships.

Tax incentives for US ship builders are also part of the measures, which have had bipartisan support in Washington. “We’re going to make them very fast, very soon,” Trump said of building the US-made ships.

National Security concerns with China have pushed both Republicans as well as Democrats to look at crafting policy that would prioritize the United States' maritime industry.
