After the Supreme Court ruled on the TikTok ban on Friday, President-elect Donald Trump said that the ruling must be respected and that he will be reviewing what will come next regarding the social media platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance. This comes after Trump announced that he had a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the topic as well as others.

Trump posted on Truth Social, "The Supreme Court decision was expected, and everyone must respect it. My decision on TikTok will be made in the not too distant future, but I must have time to review the situation. Stay tuned!"

The post from Trump came after the SCOTUS ruling to uphold a law that would ban TikTok from the United States if ByteDance did not sell the social media platform or divest from the company. In addition, Trump said he spoke over the phone with Xi on Friday morning as the decision was about to come down.

"I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the USA. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately. We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe" Trump posted.

After the law passed in Congress to force the sale of TikTok or it would be banned this upcoming Sunday, the company as well as a couple of users on the platform filed a lawsuit alleging their free speech had been violated.

The Supreme Court wrote in its ruling on the topic, "We conclude that the challenged provisions do not violate the petitioners' First Amendment rights," upholding the lower court's decision to uphold the law forcing the sale of TikTok.
