Former President Donald Trump released a statement on Monday decrying the murder of Laken Riley at the hands of a Venezuelan illegal immigrant over the weekend. The White House and President have not said anything on the matter as of Monday in the early afternoon.

"The horrible murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley at the University of Georgia should have NEVER happened! The monster who took her life illegally entered our Country in 2022...and then was released AGAIN by Radical Democrats in New York after injuring a CHILD!!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "When I am your President, we will immediately Seal the Border, Stop the Invasion, and on Day One, we will begin the largest deportation operation of illegal CRIMINALS in American History! May God Bless Laken Riley and her family!!! Our prayers are with you!"

Laken had been out on a run when Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, reportedly murdered her.

Ibarra was arrested prior for multiple offenses in New York but was released after a short time.

During the fallout of the incident and the ongoing immigration crisis, the White House has faced mounting pressure to tighten security on the southern border.

Some X users compared Biden’s treatment of the death of George Floyd to Laken’s to highlight the seemingly hypocritical messaging.

Corporate media outlets downplayed the immigration status of Ibarra, with even the Associated Press instead focusing on the fears that women deal with when they are on a run in general.
