Ramaswamy called for the AG to be disbarred and said the case is a "threat to every America" and cited the 8th Amendment.
Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called for New York Attorney General Letitia James to be disbarred from her position because of alleged violations of the 8th Amendment by imposing excessive fines on former President Donald Trump.
Ramaswamy posted a video on X with the caption, "The 8th Amendment was designed to protect against excessive fines or bail imposed to achieve unjust ends. Letitia James’ crusade against Trump fits that to a tee. She should be disbarred."
“The Letitia James crusade against Donald Trump is disgusting and it is a threat to every American,” Ramaswamy began. “The Eighth Amendment prevents the imposition of excessive bail, or excessive fines. And if there's ever an example, that means that to a tee, it’s the bond that’s been demanded of Donald Trump in this disgusting New York Letitia James-led prosecution."
“This is an opportunity for the Supreme Court to step in and say, 'No, we're not going to stand for this kind of lawfare.'” Ramaswamy continued.
Ramaswamy said that the case could “empower prosecutors” in the future to use bond and bail to bankrupt an opponent and “[stop] them from being able to appeal those decisions” in the court system.
