New York congressional Republicans Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of the 11th District and Nick Lalota of the 1st District have said they will endorse former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election race.

In a report from the New York Post, the two representatives said that they would endorse Trump for the nomination, though neither has made an official announcement.

“As a Navy Veteran and member of both the Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees, I understand America needs a Commander-in-Chief who will keep us safe,” LaLota told the outlet. “President Trump’s policies made our nation stronger and had us on track to prosperity. As our 47th president, he will clean up the mess President Biden created.”

A spokesperson for Malliotakis said, "Nicole supports President Trump and will make a formal endorsement at the appropriate time.”

Four other Republican representatives from the Empire State have not publicly made any moves yet to make an official endorsement as of Saturday morning.

New York Republican Reps. Mike Lawler, Brandon Williams, Anthony D’Esposito, and Andrew Garbarino have not shown signs of who will get their good word.

According to one Republican familiar with some concerns from the congressmen who spoke to the Post, “Long Island has become more red, but It’s not Trump country. I would think they might be a little skittish."

“Maybe they’re hoping [Trump] gets convicted and kicked off the ballot," the political operative continued.

Other New York representatives who have backed Trump mostly come out of upstate New York, including Reps. Elise Stefanik out of Schuylerville, Nick Langworthy of Chautauqua, and Claudia Tenney of the Finger Lakes region.

The four congressmen holding out on the former president are facing contested elections next season from Democrats, which may be preventing some of them from committing to Trump as the nominee, even after his landslide victory in the Iowa Caucuses earlier this week.
