On Sunday, Mayor Andre Dickens made the heartbreaking announcement that the victim was a 12-year-old boy. Zyion Charles was later identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner, reported 11Alive.
Dickens also said that some of the other teens involved in the shooting, including one who was said to be in critical condition, are students of Atlanta Public Schools.
Police told reporters that a large group of teens were escorted off of the Atlantic Station property by personnel along with off-duty officers for "unruly behavior" and "curfew violations."
According to Atlantic Station's website, there is "a 3:00 pm curfew [that] is strictly enforced" for anyone under the age of 18 unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. In addition, the site states that "juvenile groups of 4+ will be dispersed."
Once the group was removed from the property, an argument broke out, which unfortunately led to gunfire down Market Street. According to police, multiple shooters haven't been ruled out in the investigation. Chief Darin Schierbaum also on Sunday said that everyone involved in the incident knew each other.
