In the wake of dismal results at the election held on Sept. 20 2021, Annamie Paul has decided to step down from the leadership of Canada's Green Party on Monday.
Paul has been the party leader since 2020, but her tenure has been unfortunately marked by turmoil within party ranks.

View on RumblePaul has made history as being the first black female Jewish leader of a Canadian political party in history, but her party has been sorely divided on issues, especially that of Israel and the West Bank/Gaza Strip.
The controversy culminated in Jenica Atwin, one of the three sitting Green MPs switching affiliations, going over to the Liberal Party in protest.
The rift wound up with the other two Green MPs, Paul Manly and former Green leader Elizabeth May, taking Atwin's side, further dividing the party in two, and generating support for a vote of non-confidence against Paul. The vote never materialized, however, the legal battle appears to have cost the party dearly in many ways.
Despite Paul having been widely considered as having done well in the debates, The Greens wound up with a net loss of a seat this time around, with May soundly winning her own riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands, and newcomer Mike Morrice taking a seat from former Liberal incumbent Raj Saini, who stepped down amid allegations of sexual harassment.
Manly wound up losing his seat, as did Paul, who has yet to sit on Parliament after three times running.
