Baltimore high school student failed nearly every class, still managed to rank in the top of his class

The student's mother Tiffany France was shocked to learn that her son would be going back to the ninth-grade instead of walking across the stage to receive his diploma.

France's son failed 22 classes and had 272 late or absences his first three years of high school. Her son still managed to rank 62 out of 120 classmates. Allegedly, Only one teacher reached out to the mother for a parent-teacher conference to discuss her child’s academic standings but they never ended up meeting. According to France, the "school failed him."

"The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that's the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn't deserve that," she said.

Fox45 reported that hundreds of students are flunking classes at the Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts in west Baltimore.

France said that she was unaware of her sons failing academic standing until February, claimed she didn’t know because he was receiving passing grades and advanced to the next grade-level each year. "I'm just assuming that if you are passing, that you have the proper things to go to the next grade and the right grades, you have the right credits," France told FOX 45.

"I feel like they never gave my son an opportunity, like if there was an issue with him, not advancing or not progressing, that they should have contacted me first, three years ago."

An administrator with Baltimore City Public Schools who wished to remain anonymous, acknowledged that the high school was at fault for failing France’s son, reported Fox45. "I get angry. There's nothing but frustration. We see on the news the crime that occurs, the murders, the shootings, we know that there are high levels of poverty in Baltimore. Things like this are adding to that. His transcript is not unusual to me. I've seen many transcripts, many report cards, like this particular student."

The school district sent a two-page statement to FOX 45 informing that the district conducts visits to check on students and when a student misses class the parent receives an automated voice message, however, France said no one graced her home. Tiffany France’s son is currently enrolled at a neighboring school with an expected graduation year of 2023.
