View on XObama alleged that Trump "said that there were very fine people on both sides of a white supremacist rally" during his stump for Harris. The protest in question at the time took place in Charlottesville, Virginia in which many protested the removal of a Confederate statue for historical reasons. However, there were also white supremacists who clashed with left-wing protesters i what became known as the “Unite the Right” rally
Trump made comments about incident during a press conference on Aug. 15, 2017 after the rally and referred to the non-violent protesters at that event, calling them “very fine people” and explicitly stated that the neo-Nazis and white supremacists should be “condemned totally.”
"I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people, but you also had troublemakers and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group, too,” Trump said at the time.
The claim has been repeatedly debunked, yet high-level Democrats have somehow continued to avoid this fact, and have continued to hurl the insult at Trump. In June of this year, Snopes fact checkers finally announced that Trump “did not call neo-Nazis and white supremacists ‘very fine people.’”
