Darline Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsay Graham, has lost her Senate race in South Carolina to Democrat Annie Andrews.
The race was called by Decision Desk just before 10 pm on Tuesday. The race marks a huge swing in favor of the Democrats in the midterm elections.
Polling leading up to the election held Graham up over Andrews by an average of 2.6 points, which was within the margin of error.
Graham, 62, was appointed by South Carolina Henry McMaster to fill the seat following the passing of her brother earlier this year. President Donald Trump had advocated for her to fill the seat.
Andrews, who is a 45-year-old pediatrician, emphasized healthcare and affordability as her campaign message during the race.
