"FBI briefers recently informed the Committee that the Bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force investigates CCP activity that is similar to China’s engagement with Governor Walz. In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer is now requesting information, documents, and communications related to the CCP-connected entities and officials Governor Walz has engaged and partnered with."
In the letter sent to FBI Director Wray, Oversight Committee Chairman Comer demanded that the FBI turn over documents related to Walz’s communications with entities or officials in China connected to the CCP.
Comer listed examples of CCP-connected entities and officials that would need to be considered, including Confucius Institutes, the US China People’s Friendship Association, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States, and others.
Comer wrote in the letter that the committee had been “conducting a government-wide investigation into the Chinese Communist Party’s political warfare operations against America” and noted that the FBI briefed the Oversight Committee on April 22 and July 17 about activity related to CCP influence in the US. These briefings were meant to inform Congress for the government-wide investigation.
Comer added that the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force "investigates exactly the kind of activity that has since come to light about Governor Walz."
