BREAKING: James Comey charged with transmitting national defense information
He was charged with transmission of national defense information and conspiracy to transmit.

Court filings made public on Monday have revealed that FBI Director James Comey has been hit with charges by the Trump administration for a third time, this time with knowingly communicating national defense information related to a person not entitled to receive it.
The charges of transmission of national defense information and conspiracy were filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on October 5, with the criminal complaint stating that Comey, “through one or more co-conspirators,” directed an unidentified individual “to disclose national defense information to a reporter for a national news publication.”

View on XResponding to the latest charges, Comey said, “Well, they’re back again. It would almost be funny if it weren’t such an appalling abuse of the Department of Justice, one that we cannot become numb to. Nothing’s changed with me, I’m still innocent, that I’m still not afraid of these people, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary. And I’m still lucky to have an amazing family, an incredible group of lawyers that will stand up in court and fight the latest, and whatever comes after this.”
“The next couple years are gonna be hard for all of us, it’s really important that we stand straight and keep the faith in America," he added.
The latest batch of charges stem from a 2016 New York Times article written by reporter Charlie Savage titled “Yahoo Said to Have Aided US Email Surveillance by Adapting Spam Filter,” per NBC News.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Farahnak wrote in a filing unsealed Monday, “The United States’ investigation has uncovered evidence that former FBI Director, James B. Comey, sought to correct misinformation which had appeared in the press by way of Reuters the day before. The investigation has uncovered evidence that Mr. Comey directed staff to speak to Mr. Savage about specific accuracy concerns related to the Reuters article, and thereby illegally transferred classified information.”
