BREAKING: Judge Chutkan sets Friday hearing on gag order in Biden DOJ’s Jan 6 case against Trump

US District Judge Tanya Chutkan has ordered attorneys for Donald Trump and those in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office to appear in court on Friday over proposed restrictions on Trump discussing the case publicly.
Chutkan had ordered the two sides to pick a date on or before Friday, with Smith’s office stating that they were available Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, and Trump’s attorneys requesting the hearing to take place on Monday or Tuesday of next week, according to NBC News.
Chutkan ordered both sides to appear before her at 11 am on Friday.
The DOJ said last week that "the proposed order seeks to prevent... improper dissemination or use of discovery materials, including to the public."
Prosecutors argued that the measure to keep Trump quiet was needed because he has shared information about the other pending indictments against him. Smith cited a Truth Social post and said that Trump's team will be given evidence, "much of which includes sensitive and confidential information," and was concerned that it would be leaked online.
In their response, Trump’s team urged the court to instead adopt an order that would bar talking about only those documents containing "genuinely sensitive" material from being entered into the public record.
Trump's lawyers argued that restricting all government documents from being protected under the order runs "contrary to established law" and his "First Amendment rights."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
