A group of far-left activists stormed the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Monday and were seen angrily chanting in favor of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a program that combats HIV/AIDS.
Repeated declarations of "Pass PEPFAR now, McCarthy," rang in the House speaker's office. A woman can be seen wearing a shirt that reads, "HIV POSITIVE."

View on X"As activists from @housingworks and @HealthGAP are arrested in an act of civil disobedience in Speaker McCarthy's office, a reminder that @PEPFAR exists today because of brave activist direct action targeting duty bearers. Proud of activists! #ProudofPEPFAR," read a post on the X account for Health GAP, an advocacy group that organized the protest along with Housing Works.
Housing Works also mentioned the protest and said that its CEO, Charles King, and Health GAP Executive Director Asia Russell had been arrested along with others.
Newsweek reported that the U.S. Capitol Police made the following statement: "This morning, multiple individuals were demonstrating inside a House Office Building. After the demonstrators refused to cease demonstrating, USCP then arrested the 4 males and 3 females for Unlawful Entry."
