BREAKING: Misconduct cases against conservative students dismissed by University of Utah after ‘Kirkiversary’ cake leftist exposed
The school was set to have misconduct hearings with both Beesley and Barnes until there was swift backlash against the school.
The misconduct cases against two conservative University of Utah (UofU) students, where they were accused of doxxing and possible "electronic harassment and inappropriate sharing of information" of a student that posed with a "Kirkiversary" cake on campus, have been dismissed in full.
Rylie Barnes and Riley Beesley, two conservative students at the University of Utah, were accused of doxing a leftist student who posed for a photo while she held a "Kirkiversary" cake in front of the UofU College Republicans table on September 10. Barnes posted a photo of the student, Sarah Larsen, whose personal information was later found out by other parties after it went viral.
The school was set to hold misconduct hearings with both Beesley and Barnes related to allegations that they had doxed Larsen until there was swift backlash against the school. Barnes posted that her case has been fully dismissed, citing an email from the school administration.
Beesley confirmed to The Post Millennial that his case has also been dismissed. He later confirmed in a post, saying, "Case fully dismissed because of the outcry on X and expert legal services from @JakeLeei."
"Thank you, @nicksortor & @MrsErikaKirk we wouldn’t have won without you. Students: Cherish Charlie Kirk’s legacy, do not celebrate his murder," he added.
The move from the school comes after Beesley and Barnes had said that the UofU was taking steps to potentially have them expelled from the school. A previous email that was sent to Barnes said, "We received information that, if accurate, may go against ... the policy on Student Rights and Responsibilities. ... The report is regarding an incident that happened on or about September 11, 2026 and allegedly involves you doxxing another University of Utah student over a political issue."
The alleged behavior in question involved "threating or endangering behavior." Beesley received a similar email suggesting he was also involved in such misconduct.
Barnes posted a photo of Larsen on September 10 where the left-wing student was posing with a cake that said, "Happy Kirkiversary." The photo quickly went viral with millions of views across social media.
Barnes wrote in the caption of the post, "What is wrong with students in Utah??" but did not share any personal information about Larsen. Following the post, other accounts leaked her identity as well as family information.
On Wednesday, left-wing students on campus staged a protest against Barnes and Beesley, accusing them of doxing Larsen's information. The two conservative students also published a document detailing leaked messages from a group chat that showed that some on campus was able to obtain their class schedule information.
Erika Kirk had retained legal counsel for Barnes and Beesley after posts about their cases went viral online over Tuesday and Wednesday.
