BREAKING UPDATE: Mother of ‘Today’ anchor Savannah Guthrie was abducted from her home while she slept: Arizona police

A representative for the sheriff’s office told the New York Post, "At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction."

Original story follows.

Authorities in Arizona are treating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as a criminal matter after what deputies described as troubling findings inside her home.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said homicide detectives were called in, an unusual step for a missing person case. “She did not leave on her own, we know that,” Nanos said Sunday, adding that the residence in the Catalina Foothills is now considered a crime scene.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 pm Saturday and was reported missing by a relative shortly before noon on Sunday. Officials said she lives alone and has no cognitive issues, with Nanos describing her as “sharp as a tack.”

Search teams, dogs, Border Patrol agents, and helicopters were deployed Sunday but later stood down as the investigation shifted away from a search effort, report NBC News.

In a statement aired on Today, Savannah Guthrie thanked the public for their support and urged anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
