BREAKING POLL: 55% American voters do not want a Glenn Youngkin presidential campaign in 2024

The Rasmussen Reports poll, released on Thursday, found that just 19 percent of US likely voters say the Virginia Republican should enter the 2024 presidential race. 55 percent said that Youngkin should not enter the race, while an additional 26 percent said they were not sure.

Republican voters were only slightly more likely to say that Youngkin should enter the race, at 20 percent, compared to 17 percent of Democrats and 19 percent of independents.

The poll was conducted between October 18 and 20 of 992 US likely voters and has a margin of error of 3 percent.

This comes as CBS News reported in September that Republican donors were urging Youngkin to enter the presidential race, with officials like former Attorney General Bill Barr telling CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa "If the governor indicated he'd (d)o it, I believe he would draw serious support and be a strong candidate."

Billionaire Thomas Peterffy said that "the money would be there" if Youngkin would announce a run, adding that the Virginia leader "appears to be leaving the door open."

Citing a person familiar with comments, Costa reported that former Fox News chairman Rupert Murdoch is also speaking highly of a potential Youngkin run.

This comes as the field running for second place in the election has shrunk slightly in recent weeks, with longshots Perry Johnson, Will Hurd, and Francis Suarez dropping out.

Former President Donald Trump remains the overwhelming frontrunner of the race, consistently polling dozens of points ahead of second place, which has been Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

In July, Youngkin responded to calls for him to run, stating at the time, "It’s really humbling when people talk about 2024 and a national role for me. And I thank them, and then I reiterate that I’ve got a big job to do here."
