Rep. Andy Biggs, one of the House's leading conservative voices and a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, has won Arizona's Republican gubernatorial primary, setting the stage for a closely watched November matchup against Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs in one of the nation's premier battleground states.
Biggs defeated a Republican field that included fellow Congressman David Schweikert, businessman Scott Neely, and business owner Ken Miceli. The Arizona congressman entered the race with Trump's endorsement as well as backing from Turning Point Action, the political arm of Turning Point USA.

In a statement celebrating the victory, Biggs said, "I am deeply honored to be chosen by Arizona Republicans as their nominee to defeat Katie Hobbs in November. This campaign has been driven by our grassroots supporters from the day we launched in January 2025 with a clear mission of Restoring the American Dream in our great state. Tonight's results show that Arizonans overwhelmingly believe in our vision and I'm grateful to have earned their support. Our goal has always been to unite the Republican Party and we've done that as much as any nominee in recent memory."

He added, "As we advance to the General Election, I want to make sure every Arizonan knows this: no matter what your political party is or your background, you deserve a better leader than Katie Hobbs. I'm going to work day and night to earn your vote, finding the areas of agreement we have and making sure you know I'll be a Governor for you and your family and your community. Thank you again to everyone who volunteered, supported, donated, and voted for our campaign."
The race is drawing national attention as Republicans seek to reclaim the governor's office in a state that has become central to recent presidential and statewide elections. A former Arizona Senate president and chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, Biggs has built a national profile as one of Congress' most conservative lawmakers. Throughout his campaign, he emphasized border security, reducing government spending, opposing illegal immigration, expanding school choice, and rolling back regulations he argues have hurt Arizona businesses.

Hobbs secured her renomination without opposition, allowing her campaign to spend months preparing for the general election. Despite not facing a primary challenger, the governor invested millions of dollars in television advertising highlighting her administration's economic record and bipartisan work with Arizona's Republican-controlled Legislature while appealing to independent and moderate Republican voters.
"I've never lost an election, but I've also never won one alone. This will be a close race, but I'm excited to be in this fight with all of you to keep Arizona moving forward," Hobbs wrote on social media shortly after polls closed Tuesday evening.
Speaking to reporters before the primary, Hobbs said her campaign had already shifted its focus to the general election in November. "We are running the race we need to win, and it is going to take a lot to get there. We know it's going to be a close race," Hobbs said. "I'm proud of the support I've garnered and, you know, I'm not raising campaign money to haul it away. I'm raising it to spend."
Democrats view Arizona as a critical state for maintaining control of governorships in competitive battlegrounds, while Republicans see Biggs as a candidate capable of unifying the party and capitalizing on voter concerns over inflation, immigration, and the economy.
The Arizona governor's race is expected to be among the most expensive and closely watched contests of the 2026 midterm elections, with control of the governor's mansion carrying significant influence over election administration, border policy, and the implementation of state law in a politically divided state.
