Chaos erupted in New York City’s Union Square on Friday after a mob of people gathered for a giveaway put on by a popular YouTuber.
The crowd was seen resorting to violence, tearing down construction barricades and throwing objects at responding police officers. One person was seen setting off a fire extinguisher, according to CBS News.
Authorities estimate that around 2,000 people gathered for YouTuber Kai Cenat’s giveaway, who has 4 million subscribers on the platform on his main channel and another 3.6 million on his live streaming channel. He was reportedly giving away a number of PlayStation consoles.
A flyer for the event, posted to Kai Cenat’s Instagram story, showed that another popular YouTuber who has 1.2 million subscribers, Fanum, would also be in attendance.
