BREAKING: Whitmer ‘kidnapping’ co-leader sentenced to 16 years
Judge Robert J. Jonker said that Fox’s sentence was needed as a punishment as well as a deterrence to commit future similar acts, and that the government’s request for a life sentence was “not necessary to achieve those purposes.”
According to the Associated Press, Fox appeared in court on Tuesday, four months after he and Barry Croft Jr. were convicted of conspiracy charges, and was sentenced for conspiring to abduct the state leader and blow up a bridge during the escape.

Government prosecutors had pushed for a life sentence, saying that Fox was the "driving force urging their recruits to take up arms, kidnap the governor and kill those who stood in their way."
Judge Robert J. Jonker said that Fox’s sentence was needed as a punishment as well as a deterrence to commit future similar acts, and that the government’s request for a life sentence was "not necessary to achieve those purposes."
"It’s too much. Something less than life gets the job done in this case," Jonker said, adding that 16 years in prison "is still in my mind a very long time."
In addition to his prison sentence, Fox will be required to serve five years of supervised release.
Croft will be sentenced on Wednesday.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
