A store sign at a Burger King location in Jackson, Michigan, is under investigation by the corporation after the marquee's message was discovered signaling against mask and vaccine mandates and rallying support from passerbys.
The sign in front of the building at 1625 E. Michigan Ave. displayed a contentious message on the board: "Honk if you are against forced mask & forced jab."
"We've been in communication with the franchisee who is further investigating this incident," a corporate Burger King spokesperson told MLive about Thursday's discovery. "Protecting the health and safety of team members and guests has been our top priority since the beginning of the pandemic."
As of Friday, the sign had been changed to "Open interviews Monday 3pm."
According to MLive, the manager of the restaurant refused to comment on the sign under corporate scrutiny. Cars passing on Thursday could reportedly be heard acknowledging the sign as drivers passed the restaurant honking their horns.
Inside, an equal number of employees could reportedly be seen wearing masks to not wearing masks, despite Burger King's requirement that all employees wear masks in substantial or high transmission areas as stated by the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. According to CDC data, Jackson county is one of 24 counties listed with a substantial transmission rate of COVID-19.
