CBC tells reporters, editors not to refer to 9/11 as ‘terrorist attacks’

Warren Kinsella revealed the details of the missive in the Toronto Sun. It went on to say: "The hijackings led to passenger jet crashes." Kinsella states that there was no recognition that those hijackings were part of a terror plot to murder over 3,000 people and crash four planes. He shared the memo.

"Do not refer to the Sept. 11 attacks as terrorist attacks," it shows. "The hijackings led to passenger jet crashes in Washington, DC, Pennsylvania and Manhattan. The World Trade Center (WTC in second reference) was destroyed. (The September 11 Digital Archive is an excellent resource for details about the attacks. It was created by several U.S. universities, historical societies and foundations."

The memo goes on to say, "If you have more specific questions about the 9/11 anniversary coverage you are working on, please reach out to your editorial leader or the JSP office." Kinsella said that this memo was "consistent" with previous CBC guidance to reporters and editors. The CBC is publicly funded.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the CBC's Public Affairs Director Kerry Kelly defended Boshra's memo, saying "It is the practice of the CBC to exercise extreme caution before using the words 'terrorist' and 'terrorism.' The memo was a reminder of the longstanding practice that favours the use of these terms with attribution in our reporting."

Boshra also teaches journalism at Concordia University and has spent decades in Canadian media. The memo was confirmed by reporters at the National Post. Conservative MP for Lethbridge said, "This is absolutely shameful."

"The CBC is choosing to redefine terrorism in a way that downplays the atrocity of 9/11," she went on. "Refusing to call it an act of terrorism dishonours the victims, their families, the survivors, and the first responders who witnessed the horrors of that day. 9/11 was an act of terrorism. Full stop. Trying to sanitize or rewrite that history is deeply offensive and does a disservice to everyone who was affected by the attacks."

Canada's Minister of Public Safety always weighed in on Friday following the memo, pointing out that the nation's relationship to the terror attacks of 9/11 was not a passive one. The Government of Canada recognized the attacks, he said "as the deadliest terrorist attack in history." Following that attack, said Gary, Anandasangaree, "Canadians stood with out american neighbors."

This included the "families in Gander, who opened their homes to thousands of stranded airline passengers, showing friendship and solidarity in a time of crisis." Flights were diverted to that airport when they could not land in American locations. It was in "direct response," he went on "that Parliament passes the Anti-terrorism Act, 2001, whcih gave Canada its first legal definition of 'terrorist activity' and made terrorism-related conduct a criminal offence."

The 25th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks is coming in the next few weeks. On that date in 2001, four planes took off with the intent of murdering Americans and sending a message that the superpower was not invincible.

Two planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center in New York, another into the Pentagon in Washinton, DC, and a fourth was diverted by passengers and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. It was believed that it was intended for the White House.

Following those attacks, a conversation began indicating from the progressive left that America, essentially, deserved it. Publishers, media pundits and executives brought up concerns that the terror attacks, carried out by Islamic extremists, would lead to discrimination against Muslims, calling it Islamophobia.
