CBS is being called out on social media after the network trimmed out part of the recently released body camera footage showing 13-year-old Adam Toledo holding a gun before his death in Chicago in March.
The graphic footage showed a Chicago police officer chasing two people, one of whom appeared to be Toledo. During the pursuit, Toledo stopped and turned toward the officer, at which point the cop ordered him to show his hands.
In the video, Toledo appeared to have his hands up when he is shot once in the chest. Also seen in the footage is Toledo holding a gun, which he allegedly threw away before the fatal shot was fired. The video also showed officers attempting to resuscitate Toledo.
According to Fox News, the CBS video was formatted for mobile devices and as a result the image of Toledo holding the gun was cropped.
CBS already being accused of behaving like activists, rather than journalists, by running a story with the headline, "3 ways companies can help fight Georgia's restrictive new voting law," which was designed to put pressure on Georgia in response to their new voter laws. CBS eventually scrubbed the tweet containing the article and edited the headline.
CBS earlier this month the network aired a 60 Minutes story on Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, which accused him of a "pay-for-play" scheme and edited an interaction between the Governor and correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, which left out the his explanation of what led to a COVID vaccine distribution deal with Publix. Florida Democrats defended DeSantis and contradicted CBS’s false narrative.
