CNN’s Anderson Cooper shocked to find out there were so many Bronx residents at Trump rally

Cooper asked, "What was the crowd like and what sort of response did he get?"

"Well, certainly a bigger crowd than I think Democrats would like to see, particularly given this is one of the bluest counties in the entire country. Now, one of the things that was interesting to me is that the Trump campaign said that they were going to micro-target to get people from the community to come to this rally," CNN national correspondent Kristen Holmes replied.

"I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve gone to a lot of these rallies across the country and there are often people who travel hundreds of miles to see Donald Trump and they’re not necessarily part of the community, however, one of the things that I found was that there were a lot of people here that were actually from the Bronx," Holmes added.

CBS News said, "This rally did look a lot like America," noting that there were a lot of Asian, Hispanic, and black voters attending, adding that it’s "not typical for a Trump rally" in other places in the country such as Wisconsin or Michigan.

According to Fox News, the Trump campaign estimates that around 25,000 people attended the Crotona Park rally, blowing past the initial estimate of 3,500 people expected to attend.

The last time that a Republican presidential candidate campaigned in the South Bronx was over 40 years ago, with Ronald Reagan.

Fox News noted that Biden won the South Bronx with 83.5 percent of the vote in 2020. "Most political opponents will look at a number like that, walk away. They would write off that area of the country. But President Trump, he decided to double down, to fight harder."

“That’s what President Ronald Reagan did in 1980 when he also campaigned in the Bronx. And that same year, President Reagan went on to win the state of New York, something very difficult for any Republican."
