During the live airing of ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, just moments after the ball dropped and New York City played their annual rendition of Frank Sinatra singing "New York, New York," the camera captured one man take a knee.

To attend New York City's annual New Year's celebrations, revelers were required to show full proof of vaccination, photo identification, and wear masks.
Revelers were not able to enter the viewing area until 3pm, unlike years before the pandemic where those looking to watch the celebration would be lining up many hours ahead of time.
Just days before the New Year, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Americans that they should consider cancelling their large holiday plans amidst the spread ofthe omicron variant.
"I mean, I have been telling people consistently that if you're vaccinated and boosted and you have a family setting home with family and relatives, but when you're talking about a New Year's Eve party," Fauci said, "where you have 30, 40 50 people celebrating, you do not know the status of the vaccination I would recommend strongly: Stay away from that this year. There will be other years to do that, but not this year."
