Dave Portnoy bought a ‘massive’ home in Florida, will Barstool Sports follow?

According to Page Six, the CEO of Barstool Sports is considering opening a second office for the media company in the Sunshine State. The company currently has offices in New York City.

A representative for Barstool Sports told Page Six, "Dave loves warm breezes, pretty señoritas and low taxes so anything is possible."

Portnoy told the Miami Herald that since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, "I’ve been coming to Miami for awhile, and with COVID I started coming here more and doing a lot remotely."

Portnoy, founded Barstool, a sports website, in 2003. Recently, Portnoy started the Barstool Fund, which has raised over $37 million dollars to help struggling restaurants survive government shutdowns and restrictions instituted in response to the pandemic.

Portnoy told the Herald, "You’d have to be moron to pay New York taxes. We’re a successful company now and going to be getting more money, and to just give some of it back to New York doesn’t make sense. And I realized if I could still have my job but make my residence Miami and pull it off, it would be a no-brainer. So it was the tax issues, the fact that I could work remotely, and the fact that I love it here."

The question now becomes if barstool will follow. Portnoy told the Herald that there may end up being a Barstool "outpost" in Florida.

"I’m still a Boston guy. You’re not going to catch me in Heat colors or Dolphins colors. When the Patriots come to play, I hope they beat the Dolphins by 100, and when the Celtics come I hope they beat the Heat by 100."

Other notable personalities and celebrities have fled the Northeast in favor of Florida including Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen and thousands of other residents.
