Democrat Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy was hospitalized Saturday after suffering a stroke. Murphy, 53, was taken to a hospital after experiencing numbness in his arm during his son’s hockey game.
A statement from Murphy’s chief of staff Allison Herwitt read: “Yesterday afternoon, Senator Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins to further monitoring and is responding well to treatment. The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”
Some on social media wished Murphy well in his recovery, including California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna.
“Keeping @ChrisMurphyCT in my thoughts for a full and speedy recovery,” Khanna wrote. “We need his leadership to stand up against foreign wars and corruption.”
Murphy has been in the Senate representing Connecticut since 2013 and served his constituents in the US House before that. He has been a harsh critic of President Donald Trump and his administration and is rumored to be a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.
