DOJ charges agitator for biting, kicking ICE agent in Portland

Oriana Korol, 38, a clarinetist for the Antifa-affiliated leftist "Unprecedented Brass Band," has been accused of biting and kicking a federal agent while being detained for allegedly interfering with another arrest. Korol was charged on October 15 with felony assault against a federal officer at the US District Court in Portland, according to records. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, and was captured on video.

According to court documents, Korol was captured on video footage taken by NewsNation national correspondent Jorge Ventura pulling a male protester away from federal officers who were attempting to arrest him. A Department of Homeland Security Federal Protective Service (FPS) officer pushed Korol out of the way, knocking her to the ground.

While on the ground, Korol allegedly kicked an FPS officer in the right leg. She was placed under arrest, but resisted. During a struggle, Korol allegedly proceeded to bite the officer's left arm with her teeth, according to the affidavit. It took several federal agents to get Korol into custody.

During the arraignment, federal prosecutor Katherine Ryyken argued to the judge that Korol's alleged actions that day were "violent," which included a "kick" and a "bite," the Oregonian reported.

Korol's federal public defender refuted the government's account, with Kara Sagi telling the judge, "I disagree with the government's characterization of her arrest in this case."

Judge Youlee Yim You ordered Korol to be released from custody pending trial with a series of conditions that prohibit her from returning to the ICE facility during court proceedings.

Korol, a mother to a small child, was held in Clark County Jail for three days following her arrest before she made her initial appearance in federal court. In an interview with the Oregonian, Korol was described by associates as an innocent band player who did no wrongdoing.

The following individuals were also recently federally charged by the Department of Justice:

1) Lisa Miyamoto, 56, of Portland, was charged in federal court on October 21 with the felony offense of assaulting a federal officer.

According to court documents, on October 19, federal officers deployed outside the gates of the ICE facility to clear the vehicle entrance for vehicles to exit the facility. Miyamoto was captured on ICE surveillance video "forcefully" striking a federal officer with a wooden tambourine.

Miyamoto was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. She faces up to eight years in federal prison and was ordered to be released from jail pending court proceedings, the US District Attorney's Office for Oregon said in a press release.

2) Elizabeth Leslie, 32, of Portland, has been charged by the Department of Justice with felony assault on a federal officer.

According to court documents, on October 18, during a violent Antifa-affiliated "No Kings" direct action, Leslie was captured on surveillance video and body-worn camera physically striking a federal officer in the chest after lunging toward him. The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 pm when officers deployed out of the facility to clear the driveway to allow vehicles to exit the ICE facility.

Leslie faces up to eight years in federal prison and was ordered to be released from custody pending court proceedings, according to a DOJ press release.

3) Brian Keith Kapileo Nepaial, 38, of Aloha, has been charged by criminal complaint with pointing a laser at a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, according to a DOJ press release.

Court documents state that on October 3, a CBP helicopter was forced to abort its planned landing after being struck by a high-powered green laser. The flight crew observed an individual walking near a residence and disappearing. On October 10, the FBI executed a federal search warrant at the residence and seized a laser from the bedroom of Kapileo Nepaial, where agents also discovered over 100 grams of methamphetamine and evidence of drug trafficking.

He is currently in Washington County custody on a parole violation and faces five years in prison for the laser charge and up to 40 years in prison for the drug trafficking charge.
