El-Sayed organizer claims candidate is receiving overseas donations, says rejecting Hamas would cost him support: OMG

OMG identified the organizer as Abdoul Beckwith. The Michigan Democratic Party said he had been terminated and that his "claims are categorically false." Beckwith said in the undercover video, “He [Abdul El Sayed] can't just say, you know, no, I don't support Hamas, you know, I reject all of them, because he's going to lose the people that brought him up in the first place."

“He [El-Sayed] has to play the game. He has to play the role.”

Discussing fundraising, Beckwith claimed, “You know, he [Abdul El Sayed] has people from overseas that donate to him.”

Asked whether overseas donations were permitted, he responded, “No, it is not allowed,” before describing a hypothetical arrangement involving money passing through a family member. And then people overseas give money to him. And then he gives money to you. It's that type of thing,” he said, adding, “Everybody does it!”

Federal law bars foreign nationals from contributing directly or indirectly, including through intermediaries. However, US citizens abroad and lawful permanent residents may legally contribute.

Beckwith also suggested denouncing the Muslim Brotherhood would alienate Muslim supporters. “So that's the whole thing. So when Abdul is going to denounce that [Muslim Brotherhood], they're [Muslims] going to think that he is siding with the genociders,” he said.

In another recorded exchange, Beckwith singled out white and Jewish people around El-Sayed. “There's a lot of white people around him [El-Sayed]. A lot of Jewish people around him. And when you're around a certain group of people for so long, you absorb the ideology, the mannerisms, everything like that,” he said. “They're [Whites & Jews] going to hijack him, and then in a year he's going to be doing what they want with him.”

Asked whether El-Sayed might abandon his promises, Beckwith responded, “I think, yeah.”

Beckwith also claimed without evidence that Michigan Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson "works for the KKK.” he said. “She works for the KKK. For the Ku Klux Klan.”

The comments follow a Washington Free Beacon report identifying El-Sayed as a signatory to a November 2012 declaration backing Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood-aligned president, Mohamed Morsi. It called on Morsi to “purge the media and the police as quickly as possible.”

The original statement lists “Dr. Abdul Rahman El-Sayed” of New York as its 33rd signatory. The Free Beacon reported confirming his identity. The declaration also acknowledged concerns about Morsi’s expanded powers and sought their expiration upon completion of the constitution.

The Committee to Protect Journalists’ 2012 review documented suppression of critical reporting and at least six journalists facing charges of “insulting the president” or “insulting Islam.” It did not establish that the declaration caused those actions. The outlet also highlighted El-Sayed’s 2011 writing defending the Muslim Brotherhood against comparisons with Iran and Hamas.

El-Sayed's father-in-law, Tayeb Jukaku, served on the Islamic Society of North America’s founding committee and as CAIR-Michigan president from 2005–2010, according to separate Free Beacon reporting. Both organizations were named unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas-financing case; neither was charged. By July 28, Jukaku had contributed $300,000 to Fighting for Michigan PAC, supporting El-Sayed.

El-Sayed’s biological mother, Fatten Fathy Elkomy, worked for the Islamic American Relief Agency. The Treasury designated the IARA network in 2004, citing support for bin Laden, al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Hamas. Her employment does not establish personal participation in terrorism.

The New York Post also reported statements attributed to his half-sister describing their mother’s Muslim Brotherhood activism in 1970s Egypt. El-Sayed has denied personal or family ties to the organization.

The Free Beacon documented El-Sayed headlining four Islamic Relief USA fundraising cruises in 2019, including two alongside Amer Zahr, who had expressed solidarity with Hamas and Hezbollah.
