Elon Musk shares negative drug test results after New York Times hit piece

The Times report claimed that Musk was frequently consuming ketamine, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms, citing people familiar with the matter. However, the allegations appeared to be false, according to a June 11 lab test that showed the SpaceX CEO to be drug-free.

The drug test was conducted by "Fastest Labs of South Austin" in Texas, according to a screenshot of the results that Musk shared on X, which included an added caption that stated: "lol."

The test results became available five days after Musk provided his urine sample. It showed negative results for ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine, ketamine, fentanyl, cannabinoids, and others. According to the results, Musk did not test positive for any drugs in his system.

Musk previously refuted the drug allegations reported by the New York Times, stating, "I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this is not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes but haven't taken it since then." The DOGE head then accused the paper of "lying."

According to the Times report, Musk was a "chronic" ketamine user who suffered from bladder difficulties. Sources further alleged that he maintained a stash of narcotics in a daily medicine pill box that could carry approximately 20 pills.

The accusations were made around the same time the billionaire Tesla founder exited the White House following a four-plus-month stint serving as the chief of President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency responsible for slashing government waste, fraud, and abuse. Additionally, Musk and Trump have both recently participated in a highly publicized online feud, taking shots at one another on social media over the GOP-backed "Big Beautiful Bill," which Musk criticized for its spending levels.

Prior to Musk publishing the results of his drug test, the Independent reported that the New York Times' managing director, Charlie Stadtlander, stood by their reporting, saying, "Elon Musk is continuing to lash out because he doesn't like our reporting. Nothing that he's said or presented since our article about his drug use during the presidential campaign was published contradicts what we uncovered. We stand by our journalism."
