View on XIn January 2022, Hernandez-Ebanks and four other juvenile detainees assaulted multiple staff members at the facility, stole a car, and escaped.
The incident caused the facility to update many security measures, including electric carts and all-terrain carts, replacing vehicles used by security and health center staff on campus, required uniforms for maximum security youth and an increase in security rounds. In addition, a single point of entry at the front gate was replaced with a secure, cantilevered, sliding, key-card-controlled, video-activated gate.
Four juveniles escaped the facility in April but were quickly located and returned to Echo Glen.
