During Google's annual developers conference Google I/O Tuesday, the tech giant unveiled its new collaborative tool Smart Canvas, which includes a new assisted writing tool that recommends to users gender neutral language in their writing, Metro reports.
According to CNET, Smart Canvas is "a new collaboration tool in the Google Workspace that brings Docs, Sheets and Slides together more efficiently," that help users "stay connected, focused and better use your time."
Google used chairman as an example. A message window pops up that explains "this indicates gender. If you would like to choose gender inclusive phrasing, consider Chair or Chairperson."
Tuesday's conference also stated Google's push to shift away from gendered language.
The assisted writing tool will also assist in avoiding passive voice or offensive language.
Google claims the assisted writing tool "includes warnings about offensive words and language, as well as other stylistic suggestions that can speed up editing and help make your writing more impactful."
