Hunter Biden’s tell-all memoir fails to make top 10 despite media blitz

Biden's new book, Beautiful Things: A Memoir, reportedly sold just 10,638 copies in its first week, placing the novel at 12 place on Publishers Weekly hardcover nonfiction list.

Comparatively, first place is held by Amanda Gorman's book The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country, sold 42,318 copies in the same timeframe, and Fox News host Shannon Bream's book The Women of the Bible Speak: The Wisdom of 16 Women and Their Lessons for Today, sold 32,686 copies last week placing it in second.

Many outlets were pushing the book, including ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS, and CNN.

Biden's interview with Tracy Smith on CBS Sunday Morning the day before the release of his book led to his controversial and widely headlined comment about smoking Parmesan cheese.

"I spent more time on my hands and knees picking through rugs, smoking anything that even remotely resembled crack cocaine. I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone that you know, I'm sure, Tracy!" said Biden.

Brian Stetler called the book "breathtaking" and "extraordinary" on his show Reliable Sources, and also pushed it in his newsletter.

In interviews with both Kimmel and Smith, Biden was grilled about the laptop scandal that was exposed in late 2020.

"I've seen you on some interviews, you know, talking about the laptop ... and when they asked you if that was your laptop, you say you don't know, which is hard to believe unless you read the book, and then it's like, I'm surprised you have shoes on," said Kimmel.

Smith asked Biden whether the laptop could have been his, to which Biden replies "Of course, certainly. There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked. It could be that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me."

In his book, the Daily Wire reveals that Biden reportedly attacks former President Donald Trump's children, Donald Jr. and Eric, pointing out the Trump surname that he says would figure into the calculation of getting a job outside their father's business.

"Do you think if any of the Trump children ever tried to get a job outside of their father’s business that his name wouldn’t figure into the calculation? My response has always been to work harder so that my accomplishments stand on their own.,” wrote Biden.

Back in March 2020, Donald Jr. told Axios that he wanted to debate Biden regarding which child had benefitted more from the federal government position of their father.

"We can go full transparency, we show everything, and we can talk about all of the places where I am supposedly grifting but Hunter Biden isn’t,” said Trump Jr.

When asked is Trump Jr. would release his tax returns, he said “If we do it both, 100%. Let’s talk about who profited off of whose public service. Happy to do it. Let’s make it happen.”

A excerpt released from Biden's book by Stylecaster said that "At one point in the memoir, the father of five calls out fellow First Sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump for finding success through nepotism. The former president’s sons have worked with him for the entirety of their professional careers, whereas Hunter notes, “I’ve worked for someone other than my father, rose and fell on my own.” “There’s no question my last name was a coveted credential. That has always been the case,” Hunter writes later in the memoir, acknowledging his own privilege as Joe Biden’s son."

In reference to Biden's dependence on the namesake of his father, Trump Jr. told Fox News in October 2019 that "When you’re the father and your son’s entire career is dependent on that, they own you. They’ve bought Biden Inc., and they’ve been doing it domestically, whether it was MBNA Bank, whether it was Amtrak, whatever it was, domestically, when he was a senator, and had influence over domestic policy, and they started doing it internationally the second Joe Biden became vice-president and had authority abroad.”
