The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon on Friday announced the arrests of 14 violent convicted illegal aliens who were released from state custody without notifying US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This includes foreign nationals convicted of manslaughter, child sex abuse, domestic violence, and other serious charges, according to a press release.
In each case, ICE had lodged federal immigration detainers that weren’t honored.
The apprehensions occurred after the US Attorney's Office won two petitions in Court requiring four Oregon counties, through court-authorization, to provide information leading to the whereabouts of the released illegal aliens. The Office had filed petitions in October 2025 and April 2026, requesting assistance from Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, and Washington counties in locating more than 40 violent illegal aliens.
“Federal authorities have now taken 14 violent criminal illegal aliens back into custody after they were released from Oregon prisons or jails despite ICE detainers. With court-authorized information-sharing from four counties, we’re tracking down high-risk individuals and acting fast,” said US Attorney Scott Bradford on X. “We will not allow violent offenders to vanish back into our communities. Public safety comes first.”
Currently, there are over 300 illegal immigrants in Oregon state custody with ICE detainers, according to federal authorities. Detainers are official requests sent to local and state jails asking for ICE to be notified before the subject is released into the community rather than be turned over to ICE.
The Democrat-controlled Oregon state legislature struck down a Senate GOP-proposed amendment to its sanctuary laws in February, which would have required state and county jails to comply with ICE detainers pertaining to illegal immigrants convicted of felonies. Every Democratic lawmaker voted no, thus effectively fortifying the state's non-compliance.
