‘I’m done’: Dem California state senator UNLEASHES on own party for pushing soft penalties for pedophiles
“I’m done with us protecting people who would buy and abuse our children.”

California Democrat Senator Susan Eggman, who has served as a progressive state senator for the past 12 years, unleashed on members of her own party after they tried to weaken a proposed law that would enact harsher penalties for pedophiles, saying that she is "done."
Eggman, who supported the bill that would make it a felony to purchase or solicit a minor for sex in the state, made the fiery comments on the Senate floor last Thursday when lawmakers were weighing the legislation. She accused members of her party of protecting pedophiles.

View on X"I'd like to say as a progressive proud member of this body for the last 12 years, I'm done," said Eggman. "I'm done with us protecting people who would buy and abuse our children. I'm done."
"I don't want to send more black and brown men to prison. I don't want more people in prison, but I don't want people buying girls. I don't want people buying little girls anymore," she continued. "I'm tired of saying it's okay and that we have to protect the men who do it."
Buying or soliciting sex from a minor is a misdemeanor offense under current California state law, which is punishable by a $10,000 fine and between two days to one year in jail.
Republican state Sen. Shannon Grove introduced Bill 1414, supported by Eggman, which would change the misdemeanor classification to a felony crime with a mandatory two to four years in jail, and the requirement to register as a sex offender.
Democrat state senators fought against the proposal last month and attempted to water it down, suggesting that those soliciting sex from minors should only be charged with a felony only if they purchase minors under the age of 16, KCRA reported. Eggman, who is a social worker, argued on the floor that "We have a moral responsibility to say, 'Enough!'"
"We have given away enough on this area and we've got to move back into the center or we all look like fools and laughingstocks," she said.
"A lot of these kids can’t be throwaway kids. They're poor kids, they're kids of color, but they shouldn't have to live a life determined by what happened to them by others at a very young age and have the Democratic Party of California say, 'It's okay.’” she continued. "It's not okay. I'm not doing it anymore and I hope none of you do too."
California lawmakers passed the bill in a 36-0 vote. It is now headed to the state Assembly for a vote.
