Jim Jordan demands Biden’s DOJ turn over detailed ‘scope’ of probe into Mar-a-Lago seized docs
“The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing to investigate the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) unprecedented raid of President Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022.”
On Tuesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland requesting unredacted documents outlining the scope of special counsel Jack Smith’s probe into documents held at Mar-a-Lago by former President Donald Trump.
"The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing to investigate the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) unprecedented raid of President Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022," the letter began.

Jordan wrote that the committee has previously requested information and documents relating to the raid and subsequent information, but this information has not been provided.
"Because you have not provided this information, and in light of your appointment of Jack Smith as special counsel, we write to request an unredacted copy of the memorandum outlining the scope of Mr. Smith’s probes regarding President Trump and any supporting documentation related to his appointment as special counsel," the letter stated.
Jordan requested that Garland provide to the committee "an unredacted copy of the memorandum outlining the scope of Special Counsel Smith’s investigations pursuant to his appointment on November 18, 2022, and any other document describing, listing, or delineating the authority and jurisdiction of the special counsel as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 pm on June 20, 2023."
The letter follows one sent by Jordan to Garland last week, demanding to know the extent of the FBI’s involvement in the investigation, highlighting the decline in trust in the FBI after the release of the Durham report which revealed that the FBI "failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law" in their launching of an investigation into the now debunked Trump-Russia collusion case.
Jordan’s June 1 letter demanded that Garland provide information as to the total number of FBI employees working on Smith’s investigation, whether any FBI employees working on Smith’s investigation previously worked on matters concerning Trump, and whether Smith’s investigation relies on information gathered by the FBI prior to his appointment.
