BREAKING: Rebel News journalist injured by police amid Trudeau crackdown on freedom protest
“I do not accept the targeting of our journalists for violence by Trudeau’s thugs,” Rebel News CEO Ezra Levant stated, announcing they’ll sue the police on the reporter’s behalf.
Police had moved to clear the crowd Saturday, deploying tear gas and using batons on the freedom demonstrators protesting on Parliament Hill. A baton-wielding police line formed in front of the massive protest gathered at the city center.
Lavoie was hit by police during the melee and injured, Rebel News reported.
Rebel News CEO Ezra Levant said he has spoken with Lavoie and legal counsel, announcing that they'll sue the police on the journalist's behalf.
"I just spoke with Alexa Lavoie, our brave reporter who was just assaulted by Trudeau's police," Levant tweeted Saturday morning. "She tells me a cop hit her three times with a club and then shot a tear gas canister at her leg from point-blank range. Trudeau has instructed his police to attack journalists."
"Alexa says she was specifically targeted by a cop who saw her camera. She says he came up to her and beat her and pushed her down. She says he tried to knock the phone out of her hands, to stop her from filming," Levant tweeted.
Levant further described the "unprovoked, targeted violence" against the woman.
"I know the rest of the Media Party is delighting at Trudeau's brutality and martial law. But we still believe in peace and freedom," Levant continued to write.
"I do not accept this. I do not accept the targeting of our journalists for violence by Trudeau’s thugs. I find it repugnant to see police hit a woman with a club and to shoot her to inflict pain & distress," Levant concluded the Twitter thread.
True North reporter Andrew Lawton was pepper sprayed Friday by Ottawa police while trying to do his job as a journalist. Likewise, True North also plans to sue the police for assaulting and targeting a working journalist.
"I've just retained a lawyer on behalf of True North and our journalist @AndrewLawton [...] @JustinTrudeau: you don't get to beat up journalists in this country. See you in court," tweeted True North editor-in-chief Candice Malcolm.
