“I’m not here to fight about bathrooms,” McBride said.

On Wednesday, incoming Delaware transgender Rep. Sarah McBride said the lawmaker would comply with House Speaker Mike Johnson's regulations on same-sex bathrooms, despite the lawmaker's disagreement with the policy. McBride argued that there were more pressing issues affecting the country and that he would not waste time fighting over this particular one.
"I'm not here to fight about bathrooms. I'm here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down costs facing families," McBride wrote in a statement posted to X. "Like all members, I will follow the rules as outlined by Speaker Johnson, even if I disagree with them. This effort to distract from the real issues facing this country hasn't distracted me over the last several days, as I've remained hard at work preparing to represent the greatest state in the union come January."

Rep. Mace ultimately did not need to introduce the measure because House Speaker Johnson issued a resolution on the subject Wednesday morning.
