A mob of anti-ICE protesters clashed with immigration agents outside a San Francisco immigration courthouse on Wednesday, leaving several officers injured and one protester facing federal charges for assault.
According to court filings cited by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Adrian Guerrero was armed with a knife during the altercation outside the courthouse on 100 Montgomery Street. Guerrero is accused of slashing the tire of a government vehicle and repeatedly making threats to an agent, including “I’m going to f*ck you up,” “I’m going to go after your family,” and “I’m going to stab you.”
The confrontation began as ICE agents were carrying out a removal operation in the California city, when protesters reportedly surrounded and physically attacked four officers, throwing punches and using pepper spray. Agents suffered injuries from the pepper spray, and one officer had a jammed finger. Guerrero was arrested with a knife, orange-tinted goggles, and a patterned keffiyeh, which is often worn by pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
Guerrero has been charged with assault on a federal officer and destruction of government property.
Following the incident, DHS released a statement noting how assaults against ICE agents have surged in recent months. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem condemned the incident in a statement, saying, “Our brave ICE law enforcement are now facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. These acts of violence are fueled by sanctuary politicians' rhetoric vilifying our law enforcement.”
“We will not and have not let this violence stop us or slow us down. Everyday our law enforcement continues to enforce the law and arrest the most depraved criminals including pedophiles, terrorists, murderers, gang members, and sexual predators,” Noem added.
