Kevin McCarthy demands FBI director hand over documents on alleged $5 million Biden bribe scheme or face contempt charges

The subpoena, issued earlier this month by the House Oversight Committee, called on the FBI to send over an informant file detailing an "alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions." The amount allegedly discussed in the document outlining the bribe was $5 million.

"We have jurisdiction over the FBI," McCarthy said in an interview on Fox & Friends on Tuesday. "I personally called Director Wray and told him he needs to send that document; today is the deadline."

"Let me tell Director Christopher Wray right here right now," McCarthy continued, "if he misses the deadline today, I am prepared to move contempt charges in Congress against him."

He went on to explain that the House Oversight Committee has the right to look at FBI documents, noting that Wray and the bureau he oversees are "not above the law."

McCarthy's sentiments echoed those of Committee Chairman James Comer, who threatened Wray with the same type of charge last week.

"The FBI's refusal to produce this single document is obstructionist," argued Comer. "Nevertheless, to narrow the breadth of the subpoena, we are providing additional terms based on unclassified and legally protected whistleblower disclosures that may be referenced in the FD-1023 form: 'June 30, 2020' and 'five million'."

According to the New York Post, Comer sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday demanding that he hand over the file. The House Oversight Committee chairman noted that the informant tip that they were looking for was from June 30, 2020.

It has since been revealed that Ukrainian officials held a press conference in Kyiv just seventeen days earlier showcasing $5 million in cash that had allegedly been offered to someone as a bribe to cut short the investigation into Mykola Zlochevsky, the founder of Burisma, where Hunter Biden had inexplicably been working for five years previous.

Those in charge of the investigation claimed at the time that "Biden Jr and Biden Sr do not appear in this particular proceeding," however, as Comer explained in his letter, the FBI document accusing the vice-president of bribery was "created or modified" less than three weeks later.

In his letter, Comer reminded Wray that the Committee had been seeking an FD-1023 form describing "an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions," lamenting the fact that the agency had failed to turn it over.
