After voting to form a select committee to investigate the Capitol Hill riot on January 6 Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has named Republican Representative Liz Cheney to serve, according to the Hill.
Cheney, alongside Adam Kinzinger, were the only two Republican representatives to vote in favor of the select committee’s creation.
The committee will be made up of 13 members, with eight of those members being chosen by Pelosi. The remaining five will be chosen House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in coordination with Pelosi.
Serving as the select committee’s leader is House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi.
Pelosi's other picks for the committee are House Administration Committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren of California, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff of California, Representative Pete Aguilar also of California, Representative Stephanie Murphy of Florida, Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, and Representative Elaine Luria of Virginia.
All of these picks, other than Cheney, are Democrats, a concern that Republican lawmakers have voiced. They re worried the committee would be too partisan.
