Man jumps from window to evade arrest after killing 2 in DUI crash in Washington state

Brayan Reyes-Alvarez was arrested Sept. 8 by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and the US Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force following an extensive fugitive investigation. He was wanted on a felony warrant for two counts of vehicular homicide stemming from an Aug. 8 crash on Interstate 90 in Grant County.

According to WSP, Reyes-Alvarez was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 when he collided head-on with a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe towing a boat approximately seven miles west of George, Washington.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:35 pm and shut down or disrupted traffic for hours. Investigators said drugs and alcohol were a factor in the collision.

Two 23-year-old women riding with Reyes-Alvarez were killed and pronounced dead at the scene. One was identified in local reports as Yesenia Acosta Delgado. Reyes-Alvarez was injured and transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center.

The occupants of the Tahoe, identified in local reports as 71-year-old William E. Tomalin and 70-year-old Catherine M. Tomalin of Kent, were also injured. Local reporting citing WSP said Reyes-Alvarez and his two passengers were not wearing seat belts, while the occupants of the Tahoe were restrained.

The Marshals Service said WSP investigators believe impairment contributed to the crash.

Publicly available booking information also appears to show that a man with the same name, Brayan Reyes-Alvarez, was arrested in Pierce County on May 3, roughly three months before the fatal crash, and booked on a DWI charge with a $5,000 bond.

Following the August crash, detectives assigned to WSP's Investigative Assistance Division Narcotics Section worked with investigators from the Marshals Service task force to develop leads and locate Reyes-Alvarez.

Authorities tracked him to Seattle on Sept. 8. When officers attempted to take him into custody, the Marshals Service said Reyes-Alvarez "attempted to escape by jumping from a second-story window and fleeing on foot." Officers apprehended him after a brief foot pursuit.

The arrest was carried out by members of the US Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force with assistance from the Seattle Police Department, King County Sheriff's Office, and Washington State Department of Corrections.

Reyes-Alvarez was subsequently booked in Grant County on two counts of vehicular homicide and was being held on approximately $1.02 million bail. His immigration status was not provided by the US Marshals Service.

The Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force is a US Marshals-led partnership of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across Washington, Oregon and Alaska that focuses on apprehending violent and high-priority fugitives.
