Mob descends on St Paul Home2 Suites where they believe ICE are staying, smash windows, injure at least one agent

The rioters gathered outside the hotel amid growing anger over recent federal immigration enforcement activity in the Twin Cities. As the crowd grew, tensions escalated, with agitators shouting at officers, surrounding the hotel, and attempting to block exits. Federal agents responded by deploying crowd-control measures, including tear gas and flash-bang devices, as they worked to secure the area and evacuate personnel from the hotel. Video from the scene shows chaotic confrontations between agents and rioters, with smoke filling the street as officers pushed the crowd back.

There were at least two arrests that took place at the hotel, according to The New York Post. Video footage from Freedom News TV showed a bloodied officer telling those at the hotel entrance to back up. He also yelled out, "Where's the local PD?" appearing to be frustrated that back-up was not arriving at the scene.

As the situation intensified, armored vehicles, including a BearCat tactical unit, arrived at the hotel’s front entrance. Each phase of the evacuation was met with renewed resistance from rioters, prompting additional deployments of tear gas and flash-bangs to clear pathways for departing agents.

Elsewhere in the metro area, unrest continued. Rioters shattered windows at the hotel, which they also believed was housing ICE personnel, further escalating concerns over public safety and property damage.

As the federal officers were surrounded, with objects being thrown at them, many online questioned why the local police department was not at the scene. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said in a post to X, "The Minnesota State Patrol and DNR were called to assist Minneapolis police with damage to hotel property at Home2 Suites Hotel on University Avenue."

“While they collaboratively worked to encircle the group for arrests because the demonstration was not peaceful, federal agents arrived without communication and deployed chemical irritants, clearing the group. The State Patrol and DNR are no longer on the scene," the statement added.

It was not immediately clear if the police assisted the federal officers who were left to guard the local hotel, and it was unclear if any federal agents were staying at the Hilton. Local police later arrived at the scene.

The clashes come amid heightened tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota, where recent operations and encounters involving Border Patrol and ICE have drawn strong backlash from activists and community members. Local officials have urged calm while federal authorities maintain that their actions were necessary to protect personnel and ensure safe evacuation.
