MSNBC pulls ‘Morning Joe’ to avoid ‘inappropriate comments’ after Trump shooting: report

A person familiar with the situation told the CNN that MSNBC cancelled the Monday morning broadcast "to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole" after the attempt on Trump's life on Saturday. The hosts of the program are die-hard Democrats and Biden voters, if their on-air commentary is to be believed.

"Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening," MSNBC told CNN in a statement. “As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast, alternating between NBC News, NBC News NOW and ‘MSNBC Reports,’ so there is one news feed covering this developing situation," a spokesman said.

After the attempt on Trump's life on Saturday afternoon, many left-wing activists posted their criticism of the shooter's aim, complaining that he'd missed. "One job" joined "how did you miss" in X trends after the assassination attempt. Two left-wing journalists from Seattle, Washington appeared to cheer on the attempt on Trump's life. On Saturday, 20-year-old Thomas Mathew Crooks was on a rooftop about 130 yards away from where Trump was speaking and was able to fire off multiple shots, with one grazing and piercing Trump's ear. Another round killed 50-year-old Corey Comperatore. He was a retired volunteer fire chief and had shielded his family from the bullets. Two others in the crowd with critically injured.

Crooks was killed by Secret Service seconds after the rounds were fired. That he was neutralized after, and not before, he took aim at the former president and GOP presidential contender raised questions for many as to the apparent security failures from that agency. Elon Musk called on the head of the security force, Kimberly Cheatle, to resign after the incident. President Joe Biden said it was "time to cool it down."

"We all have a responsibility to do that," he told Americans, reading from a teleprompter in the Oval Office on Sunday night. He went on to say that we all have disagreements, and the stakes are high in this election, but that the place to solve those problems is the "battle box." He also offered his prayers for "former Trump."
