MTG slams Gavin Newsom for giving illegal immigrants full, taxpayer-funded health coverage

In a post on X, Greene noted that "California is going to give illegals free healthcare, but nothing is free, the California taxpayers have to pay for it."

"The border crisis is the top issue and I want to impeach but can’t get the votes," she added. "Would a tax revolt stop it?"

On January 1, California will begin offering free healthcare to all who qualify, regardless of their immigration status, despite the state having a $68 billion budget deficit in the next fiscal year. The budget passed in May will see close to 700,000 illegal immigrants between 26-49 years of age receive full medical coverage under the plan, according to the New York Post.

Healthcare policy expert and the president and CEO of the Pacific Research Institute, Sally Pipes told the outlet, "The expansion was a bad idea when the state’s coffers were flush." She added, "Now that California is struggling to make ends meet, using taxpayer money to cover non-citizens is simply irresponsible."

Border and security and immigration expert at the Heritage Foundation, Simon Hankinson reacted to the plan on X. "No surprise CA, despite budget deficit, will give illegal immigrants subsidized health care" He said. "The question is how and when they’ll get the federal taxpayer to bail them out. NY, IL, and MA want to know."

Greene's post was in response to a post from Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin, who said that Customs and Border Patrol (CPB) told him that "There have now been over 276,00 migrant encounters at the southern border in December." He noted it is "the highest single month ever recorded, breaking the prior record set in September at 269,735, and there are still 3 days of December left."

"We are now at over 760,000 migrant encounters since October 1st," Melugin added. "making the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 also the highest ever recorded."

"That's a population size bigger than Seattle in just three months," He said. "All records being blown out of the water under the Biden admin as the crisis gets worse - not better."

It was revealed this week that since August, there have been more people arriving in the US illegally than children are being born in the country. On Saturday, X CEO Elon Musk said, "Almost no one seems to be aware of the immense size and lightning growth of this issue."

"According to the mayors, it is already overwhelming essential services in New York, Chicago, and other cities," he noted.
