EXCLUSIVE: Virginian Republican poll greeter speaks out after being accosted by unhinged progressive and accused of ‘trying to overthrow elections with violence’

Matthew Hurtt, Chairman of the Arlington County Republican Committee, was outside greeting voters and handing out Republican sample ballots on Tuesday morning when a progressive voter launched into a tirade before heading in to vote.

Feeling that the confrontation would continue when the man left the building after voting, Hurtt set up his phone in his shirt pocket to capture it.

"You f*cking people tried to overthrow the election," the man said. "You might as well had been walking up to my head on the way to the polling station, putting a gun to my head and trying to tell me not to vote."

"You expect me not to take that f*cking personally? You f*cking try to overthrow elections with violence and then you’re out here among decent people, what do you have to say for that?"

The man continued to hurl expletives toward Hurtt, who responded "have a nice day," with the man questioning about "your policy prescriptions."

"F*cking rapist rights? Involving yourself in people’s f*cking families and their f*cking bedrooms? You f*cking animal."

"You try to steal my vote next year, I’m gonna f*cking remember you personally," the man added, saying that he was going to take a picture of Hurtt.

As the man began to leave and Hurtt turned to speak to a Democrat poll greeter. The man returned, telling him, "You know, try not to be buddy-buddy with these people because they put on the face of a good neighbor, but they support lynch mobs and the KK, or they’re f*cking bible-beating bigots and freaks. And they’re not good neighbors."

Hurtt told The Post Millennial that he was at a polling location north of the Roslyn neighborhood of Arlington working as a poll greeter, who distributes sample ballots showcasing party members who are running and answers party-related questions from voters.

Regarding the incident and the media attention afterward, Hurtt said, "Every opportunity here is an opportunity for me to let people know that there are Republicans in Arlington and we want to talk about policies and we want to recruit candidates and I am grateful at the intolerance of my progressive neighbors because it gives me a platform to talk about the issues that are really important in Arlington, like crime, schools and housing."

Notably, the sample ballot shows that there are no Republican candidates or Republican-endorsed candidates running for treasurer, commissioner of revenue, sheriff, commonwealth’s attorney, clerk of court, house of delegate member, or school board.

Speaking on why no Republican ran for school board, Hurtt told The Post Millennial, "an ideal candidate for school board would be probably a young woman with children between the ages of 6 and 14."

"The progressive women in this community would ostracize their female friends if they knew they voted Republican. The pressure that is put on people to conform to progressive groupthink in Arlington is tremendous," Hurtt added.

"And imagine you're a young parent, a mom or dad, and you've got young kids in school, and you know there's people out in the community who might approach you like that and you’ve got to think about the safety of your children and safety for family."

Hurtt said this was "frequently the pushback I get," when he recruits candidates for school board. Prospective candidates tell him, "I don't want the kind of scrutiny that comes with being a conservative in Arlington."

Despite the blowback, Hurtt, chair of the Arlington GOP, said he is encouraging people to run for local office.
