The total number of people missing in Maui has increased to over 1,000 as a result of fires tearing through the island. With a death count of 115 and rising, the names of those missing will be released this week.
The fires to hit Maui were the deadliest blaze of the last century in the United States. Crews have searched everywhere in the destruction to find those that are missing. One in four children are likely missing from school as classes resume.
FBI investigators have compiled a list of names of those missing as the total increased to 1,110 and will be releasing the names later this week. Investigators are still trying to verify and account for all those who went missing during the devastation, according to the Daily Mail.
Of those that are missing, Hawaii officials do not have any estimate of how many of them are presumed to be dead and only 104 family DNA samples have been gathered in order to identify the remains of their family members, the New York Times reports.
Julie French, President of ANDE, the company in charge of the DNA gathering process, said having the DNA of relatives "is a critical step in order to make an identification" of the victims in the fire.
"Nearly three-quarters of remains that have been tested for DNA thus far have generated searchable DNA results," French added.
It has been complex trying to find remnants of those missing, as often the remains of those lost have been made into rubble and only chips of bone are found.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden arrived on the island on Monday after first making a stop at Lake Tahoe in Nevada. He was greeted with chants and protesting residents telling him he was "too late."

His family was removed from their home for half a year and he joked, " I almost lost my wife, my '67 Corvette, and my cat. All kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded. There's an old expression... 'God made man, and then he made a few firefighters.'"
While attending a meeting with Maui survivors, Biden also appeared to fall asleep in the middle of the event.
